History
Waterfront was founded in 1988 with genetics sourced from leading Simmental studs including, Munga Park, Onkaparinga and Avoca Vale.
The Simmental stud is operated with a base of 140 cows, and with the use of ET and AI programs we are able to maximize and blend our genetics with outcross bloodlines. This enables us to produce cattle that are functional and will perform for clients in varying conditions. In addition we calve 40 embryo calves annually to compliment our stud herd and provide new exciting genetics for clients.
Waterfront Red Angus was established in 1996 due to the compatibility that the breed offers when crossed with the Simmental breed. This cross produces functional “Red Baldies” and is the base of the commercial herd. The Red Angus herd is based on the genetics from Ferndale Park, Jillangalo and Princess Park.
Waterfront has had many a success in the show and sale rings, this has included; Adelaide Show All Breeds Champion 1998 and the Stock Journal Trophy for Most Successful Beef Cattle Exhibitor of All Breeds in 1999. This show success continued in 2007 at the Simmental Feature Royal Adelaide Show with Junior and Grand Champion Bull and Reserve Champion Female.
In 2008, after 13 consecutive years of exhibiting at Adelaide Show, Waterfront made the decision to discontinue showing. We wanted to focus on leaving bulls in a large management group of 40-50 to enhance the commercial adaptability of the Waterfront bulls and to improve the reliability of the breedplan data.
In September 2007 we purchased “Naringa Park” at Naracoorte to grow out the bulls from weaning to sale.
Waterfront’s Simmental cross Red Angus commercial herd, bred by Waterfront bulls has continued to perform in 2009. This performance has been well recognised when, in February 2009, a pen of 10 month old Simmental cross Red Angus heifers topped the Naracoorte weaner sale at $665 and again in September 2009 with a draft of 10-11 month old Simmental Cross Red Angus steers averaging $898 to the Adelaide Supermarket trade.
The most important part of the commercial enterprise is the opportunity for us to test our genetics under commercial
conditions and this allows us carcase feedback on the progeny from our stud genetics.
